Let's celebrate Women's History Month 2025!
Can y'all believe it's already March? As we step into Women's History Month 2025, I'm excited to continue my annual tradition of honoring the extraordinary women who have shaped the film and television industries. Since 2017, this project has truly been a labor of love, showcasing 209 trailblazing women whose contributions have left a lasting impact.
Over the years, I've discovered amazing stories of resilience, creativity, and groundbreaking achievements. These women have shattered barriers in a male-dominated industry, paving the way for future generations. It is an honor to share their stories, and I hope to inspire others to celebrate and recognize their impact.
A Decade-by-Decade Celebration
To give a comprehensive overview of women's contributions to film and television—and to be as fair and impartial as possible—I organize the featured women chronologically across different historical periods, from the 1880s to the present day. I believe this helps us understand their lives and careers within the context of the historical and cultural events of their times. This year's featured women include:
Carmen Dauset Moreno | Marion Fairfax | Barbara Karinska | Zora Neal Hurston |
Adela Rogers St. Johns | Sylvia Moberly-Holland | Irene Lentz | Dolores del Río |
Janice Loeb | Astrid Henning-Jenson | María Luisa Bemberg | Judy Garland |
Bhanu Athaiya | Mary Tyler Moore | Marlo Thomas | Carol Clover |
Nora Ephron | Gloria Hendry | Freida Lee Mock | Catherine Hardwicke |
Yim Soon-rye | Mayes C. Rubeo | Marjane Satrapi | Kiyoko Shibuya |
Céline Sciamma | Raamla Mohamed | Greta Gerwig | Celine Song |
Stephanie Hsu | Alaqua Cox | Marissa Bode |
Some of these women are household names, while others are lesser-known pioneers who deserve recognition. Together, their stories reflect the changes in the media over the years and the creativity, resilience, and pioneering spirit that have driven progress in a male-dominated field.
